Scot Macomber, LPC

Originally from Pennsylvania, Scot has called the Houston area home since 1997. As a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas, he holds a master's degree in clinical psychology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Scot actually started his working career as a marine diesel and gas engine mechanic while serving on active duty in the United States Coast Guard (E-5). He served all 4 years aboard U.S. Coast Guard cutters engaged in missions ranging from environmental cleanup and aids to navigation, to law enforcement and search and rescue. This gives him a unique perspective on issues concerning veterans and first responders. With 17 years of experience as a licensed professional counselor, he empathizes with the feeling of being stuck, having experienced it himself many times.

Scot started his counseling career working at the VA in Houston in trauma recovery with Vietnam, Korean War, and WW2 era veterans. After leaving the VA, Scot worked as a counselor in all levels of care including psychiatric inpatient, residential treatment centers, intensive outpatient programs for substance abuse and mental health, employee assistance programs, university student counseling with UT Houston and University of Houston Downtown, and again with Michael E. Debakey Veteran's Hospital in supported employment and vocational rehabilitation. He was also trained as a Peer to Peer Support Specialist for PTSD by Blue Bonnet Trails in Kileen, TX. In addition to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, he has extensive experience supporting medical professionals, veterans, first responders, and college students. Establishing his counseling practice in 2020 has been a deeply fulfilling endeavor. He focuses primarily on use of evidence based treatments and is a proponent of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Choice Theory.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and his pets. He is passionate about water activities and he is often found enjoying boating during the summer months. He believes strongly in the connection between mental health and physical exercise, he is an avid runner and is also into strength training.

Holly Whitelaw, Office Manager

I've accumulated over a decade of experience in administrative roles within various corporations and group healthcare practices. Initially, I pursued cosmetology and spent a year working in a salon. However, I realized it wasn't my calling and decided to explore other interests. My diverse background brings a unique perspective to business operations. I've been a part of the Niagara Counseling team for over 3 years now. My role involves handling billing, scheduling, responding to emails and texts, and returning phone calls. When I'm not at work, you'll often find me hanging out with my husband and our furry friends, enjoying bike rides on the trails, or simply unwinding by the water.
